It is common for cats to be afraid of loud noises, especially thunder. It is best to leave them alone; they will find the place where they feel safest, often under a bed or couch where the sound is muffled.

I’m not either, and I’m a human!
Mine like to sit beside my chair and look up at me for reassurance. If I sit quietly and look at them, and don’t jump up and run, all must be well. When I am not there, well, they probably do as you say. How would I know?
Luckily cats recover their equilibrium quickly.

Little absolutely hates boomies! Sometimes I wish the people making the boomies had a clue how she feels.
Three of my cats are okay with noise. My youngest hates fireworks, construction work, and other loud noises. When I started training her as a therapy cat, my biggest concern was whether she could handle the noises in senior residences. She stays super alert, but enjoys being a therapy cat.
Funny how different they can be.
