Any other year, members of the international Cat Writer’s Association would converge on a US city to share a weekend of cats and cat writing. After swag bags, presentations, and a gala dinner, we would congregate for the awards ceremony. Winners would be called to the stage to receive their Muse Medallions and special awards. They might even be greeted by a cat!
Not this year. In 2020, the world works online, and the CWA annual awards ceremony was no different. The organizers did an amazing job, and though our comments and congratulations were typed into a chat bar, the excitement was tangible throughout.
I had entered 5 pieces in this year’s CWA Communications Contest, 2 poems and 3 books. I won Certificates of Excellence for 4. These then went on to compete for the ultimate award in each category, the Muse Medallion. The COE is an accomplishment in itself, but to win a Muse for one’s work is nothing short of amazing.
I won two!
I wasn’t surprised when Cat Summer won in the Book, Sci-fi/Fantasy category since mine was the only entry to make it to that point, but when Cosmic Cat won the Book, Mystery category as well, I was taken completely by surprise. As you can imagine, the competition in Mysteries is intense, with many big name writers, including some of my own favorites. For Cosmic Cat to be chosen from that amazing list was a dream come true.
I don’t write with the expectation that my books will win awards, but it’s exciting when it happens. As with most writers, I want people to like my books, and an award is a little piece of tangible proof that someone does.
Big purring thanks to the Cat Writer’s Association and their judges who took the time to read all the books. Thanks to my editor Rosalyn Newhouse, without whom those books never would have happened. Special thanks to cat artist Leslie Cobb’s whose beautiful artwork has made the covers of the Crazy Cat Lady mysteries unique since book one. Thanks to Fire Star Press who published Cat Summer. Thanks to my beta reader and beloved sister in law Jepi, and to all those who helped with research. (Yes, fiction requires learning about everything from fire arms to particle physics!) Thanks to my readers and dedicated fans. I appreciate you so!
I don’t have an online store (yet!) but if anyone would like a signed copy of Cosmic Cat or Cat Summer with the beautiful Muse Award badge on the cover, email me and I’d be more than happy to send you one. Books are $15 each and shipping is free. (Paypal, U.S. address only) MollieHuntCatWriter@gmail.com
Thanks again! Read books! Love cats!
