I’ve been trying my hand at cat poetry. I’ve written people poetry for as long as I can remember, but nothing about cats. Why not? Lately I’ve come upon a significant amount of cat poetry and it has caught my fancy. Here are 2 poems, one from a cat’s view and one about my new cat, Tyler.
Night Muse
I wander,
purposeful
stealthy
sleek
black
cat.
In shadow
I follow
I lead
I wander.
My eyes glance up
to star-filled dark.
I wander.
Grass beneath my paws,
dust beneath my paws,
wood beneath my paws,
rug beneath my paws,
I wander
home.
New
Getting to know you.
Tabby fur,
dark-ticked paws,
graceful tail,
yellow eyes questioning, seeking.
Eyes that have seen eighty years in your world,
eighteen in mine.
So beautiful.
Are you a climber or a burrower?
Will you be bold or will you hide?
Are you curious or content?
Active or lethargic?
Scared or trusting?
The first time you jump in my lap of your own accord,
circle and settle and purr,
my heart takes flight.
We certainly enjoyed those!
Thank you so much.
Both are so beautiful! Tyler looks like such a sweetheart.
Thank you. I’m loving getting to know him.
Beautiful poems! The photo in Night Muse is gorgeous. I just took my first stab at a “people poem.”
Thank you. Suddenly my mind if filled with cat poems.
Then you must take heed and write away! 🙂 Can’t wait to read more!
Woo hoo, a poem about a black kitty! (Doing a little dance with paws in the air) And I really like the poem you wrote for the new little member to your family, Miss Mollie. Maybe Mr. Tabby kitty will come with you to BlogPaws next year so Flattie V & Mom can meet up with you & Tyler there?!
Oh, definitely Flattie Little (the black one) and Flattie Tyler will accompany me next time.
