More about CATS’ EYES – A Crazy Cat Lady Mystery

Lynley Cannon is the crazy cat lady, but she’s not quite crazy yet. Granted, much of
the fifty-eight year old retiree’s life is focused on felines– she volunteers at a cat shelter, fosters sick cats, and cares for her own brood of six– but she has other interests as well including facebook, her Scottish ancestry, antique malls and hip-hop. It would be a mistake to confuse a few cat-based idiosyncrasies with insanity.

Lynley and her clowder live comfortably in an old Victorian home in southeast Portland, but her serenity begins to slip when her elderly cat drags in a dusky brown beach agate. Lynley doesn’t realize it is actually a valuable chocolate diamond until her home is burglarized and the stone goes missing. When she is mugged by a man demanding a second stone, she learns it is one of a recently stolen pair: the priceless Cats’ Eyes Diamonds.

The mugger and his brother, who pulled off the diamond heist only to misplace their booty during a police chase, are convinced Lynley has the stone, and in a way, she does. When Stone Two is pulled from her back yard pond by a curious kitty, the brothers are standing by. They grab the gem and Lynley, drugging her and dropping her at the top of a mountain while they make their escape.

She dubs them the Badass Brothers, and after all the misery they’ve caused, who could blame her for wishing them gone, but when they turn up murdered, Lynley is the prime suspect. The police figure case closed; Lynley’s only hope is to find the real killer, so with the help of family and friends, Lynley launches a search of her own.

Mom Carol is an octogenarian couch detective; Granddaughter Seleia lends a hand; Frannie from the shelter is ready to cat-sit; Special Agent Denny Paris, the young hunky humane investigator, uses his skills; and when things go to far, Halle Mackey Pratt, lawyer, lesbian and Scottish clan-mate, steps up for justice.

They make a good, if unlikely team, but what Lynley doesn’t know is that as she searches for the murderer, the murderer searches for her as well.

Who killed the Badass Brothers?
What happened to the Cats’ Eyes diamonds?
Will Lynley live to clean the litter box another day?
